How much does a home addition cost in Worcester County?
Addition costs depend on square footage, foundation type, how much structural work the existing house needs, and the level of finish you want. A bump-out over an existing slab and a full two-story addition on a new foundation are very different projects. We come out, look at the house, and give you a real number based on your property instead of a guess from a phone call. The estimate is free and there is no obligation.
Can I build an ADU in Massachusetts without a special permit?
In most cases, yes. Under the Affordable Homes Act, which took effect on February 2, 2025, Massachusetts homeowners in single-family zoning districts can build one accessory dwelling unit by right, with no special permit or public hearing. The unit can be up to 900 square feet or half the gross floor area of the main house, whichever is smaller. Attached additions, detached cottages, garage conversions, basement units, and attic conversions all qualify. Local setback, height, and building code requirements still apply, and Boston operates under its own ordinance.
Do you handle permits and design, or do I need to hire that out separately?
We handle it. ARM Construction takes a project from the first conversation through design, permitting with your town, construction, and final inspection. You are not managing a designer, a mason, a framer, and a finish carpenter separately, and you are not the one sitting in front of the building department. That is what one stop shop actually means here.
Is ARM Construction licensed and insured in Massachusetts?
Yes. ARM Construction & Management Inc holds Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor Registration #153199, and Andrew Mercurio has held Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License #CS-093044 since 2011. Both are active and can be verified through the Commonwealth's public license lookup. The Construction Supervisor License is what legally qualifies a contractor for structural work, which is why we can take on additions and ADUs that many remodeling companies cannot.
