Four Generations of Experience

Andrew Mercurio is a fourth-generation builder. He came up in masonry, the way his family did before him, and grew ARM Construction & Management Inc into a full general contracting company from that foundation.

That order matters, and it is the reason this company works the way it does. Most general contractors are coordinators who subcontract the trades. ARM Construction is a masonry company that expanded outward, which means the foundation work, the stonework, the framing, and the finish carpentry are self-performed rather than handed off. On an addition, where the connection between old foundation and new determines whether everything above it holds, that is not a marketing distinction. It is the difference between finding a problem in week one and finding it in week six.

It is also why we take on work a lot of remodeling companies pass on. ADUs, structural modifications, load-bearing wall removals, garage and basement conversions, and multifamily renovation all require a Construction Supervisor License and someone qualified to do the structural work rather than schedule it.

Licensed, Registered, and Verifiable

Andrew has held Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License #CS-093044 since 2011. ARM Construction & Management Inc holds Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor Registration #153199. Both are active, and both can be verified by anyone through the Commonwealth's public license lookup.

These are two different credentials and they do two different things, which is worth knowing whoever you hire.

Home Improvement Contractor registration is required for most residential work in Massachusetts and gives you access to the state Guaranty Fund if a registered contractor defaults. It is also why we pull the permits rather than asking you to. Under Massachusetts law, a homeowner who pulls their own building permit gives up access to that fund.

A Construction Supervisor License is what legally qualifies someone for structural work. Additions, ADUs, and any project removing a load-bearing wall fall under it. This is the credential that separates a general contractor from a remodeling company, and it is why plenty of companies that will happily quote your kitchen will not touch your addition.

Ask any contractor you are considering for both numbers and check them. Anyone who hesitates is telling you something.

How We Work

One company, start to finish. Design, permitting with your town, construction, inspections, and the final walkthrough. You are not managing a designer, a mason, a framer, and a finish carpenter separately, and you are not the one sitting in front of a building department. Licensed electricians and plumbers come in for their trades as Massachusetts requires, scheduled around our work rather than the other way around.

Andrew is on the job site. Not managing it by phone from another county. On a project that runs three to six months, that is the difference most homeowners actually notice.

You hear about problems the same day. Older homes in this county produce surprises. Rot behind siding, a foundation that is not what it looked like from outside, knob and tube wiring, framing that does not match modern dimensions. When we find something, you hear what it is, what it means for the schedule, and what it means for the price, before we proceed. Massachusetts requires any change to a contract to be in writing and signed by both parties, which protects you and keeps everyone honest.

We will tell you when the answer is no. If a project should not be built the way it is drawn, if the house has a problem a remodel will not fix, or if we are not the right company for the work, you will hear that. We would rather lose a job than take one that ends badly.

That footprint is deliberate. Staying close to the work is what allows Andrew to be on your site regularly, and it means we know the building departments, the local bylaws, and what the housing stock in each of these communities is actually built on. Septic capacity decides projects in Princeton and Sterling. Setbacks decide them in Worcester. Wetlands decide them in Westborough. A 1790s farmhouse in Princeton and a 1983 colonial in Southborough are entirely different problems, and knowing that before the project starts is most of the job.
